Before Surgery

To expedite your check-in process, we need to receive your registration form prior to your procedure date. If not received, the Pre-Registration Department will be contacting you prior to your date of service. You may fax your registration form to 405-635-1318, attention Pre-Registration Department. The Pre-Registration Department direct line is 405-634-9300.
A Pre-Operative Nurse will call you prior to your surgery to collect information about your health to expedite your admission process and to review special instructions and answer any questions you have. If you have not received a call by the day before your surgery or have additional questions please call us at 405-635-3081 between 6:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
It is important for you to follow these guidelines before surgery to prevent delay or cancellations.
Your surgeon will discuss admission and the hospital with you prior to scheduling surgery. Any required lab work he orders must be done within two weeks of your surgery.
A Registered Nurse will contact you the day before surgery to review
specific instructions and answer any questions you may have. If a nurse has not called you by the day before your surgery, please call the pre-op desk at 405-634-9300 ext 3016 between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM for instructions.
Parents of small children are encouraged to visit the hospital with their child the day before surgery. This will relieve some anxiety, and will give the staff time to make friends. You will be allowed to stay with your child until they go into the operating room, and during recovery. If the child has a special toy that they wish to bring with them, please do so.
Please bring a picture ID/Driver’s license and all insurance cards with you the morning of surgery. If you have an Advanced Directive, bring that also and a copy will be placed in your record.

Day of Surgery

Please check in at the registration desk. You will be escorted to the dressing area where you will be asked to put on a hospital gown, robe, and slippers. Children will be given pajamas or a gown.
Two people will be allowed to stay with you until it is time for you to go to the operating room. Both parents may stay with their child.
You must sign an informed consent for your surgery. Read this carefully before signing. If you have any questions, they will be answered by your doctor prior to signing. This consent must be signed before any medication
can be given. For minors, parents or a legal guardian must sign.
Your anesthesiologist, surgeon, and operating room nurse may visit with you before going into the operating room.
Your family will be asked to go to the lobby waiting area. If they are going to leave the building for any length of time, they should notify the receptionist

After Surgery

You will be taken to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This is also known as the recovery room. The amount of time you stay in PACU will depend on your individual needs. For children, one parent will be allowed to stay in the recovery room if needed.
Unless you are being admitted to the hospital, your IV will be removed and you will go to the “discharge area”. There, one person will be allowed to join you again. You will be given postoperative instructions and prescriptions your doctor may have left.
POST ANESTHESIA: If you are qiven anesthesia or sedation, you must have someone drive you home. You will not be permitted to leave alone. For the same reasons, you must not drive or operate machinery for at least 24 hours after your surgery. You should also plan not to make important decisions, sign important papers or care for small children for 24 hours. You should not drink alcoholic beverages until 24 hours after the anesthesia was given, or while taking pain medications.
You will receive a phone call from one of our nurses a few days after your surgery. We like to check on our patients after they are discharged and sent home to see how they are doing. You should call your surgeon’s office for any questions you may have.
IN-PATIENT ADMISSION: If your doctor feels that you should remain overnight (or for several days), you will be transferred from the PACU to a private room. Registered Nurses will care for you around the clock. Special arrangements can be made if you wish to have someone stay with you overnight. Visiting hours are from 8 am until 8 pm, but if for some reason these hours need to be changed, check with your nurse.
When your doctor feels you are ready to be discharged, the nurse will give you any prescriptions and instructions about diet, exercise, bathing, etc. You will need to arrange for someone to drive you home.
